Jim brings in another Drew to discuss 1984’s The Last Starfighter while Alan tries and fails to tie The Music Man into the conversation.
Derek drops in (ouch!) from the future to talk Time Bandits (1981) with Alan.
It’s a ride on a crazy train, for sure! Drü joins Jim in an attempt to keep Alan on track while they discuss anime and the 1979 film Galaxy Express 999, but Alan keeps derailing the conversation anyway.
Alan and Jim dive into the matrix—sort of—to discuss the original Tron (1982). Disney’s early CGI epic was released the same year as the short story “Burning Chrome,” the novel “Neuromancer,” and, of course, “Blade Runner,” more or less birthing cyberpunk and introducing the concept of cyberspace.
Jim is shocked and shocked and amazed to learn that neither Alan nor Paul has ever seen Mad Max before.
