TMP has a complicated genesis that began with a plan for a film called “Star Trek: The God Thing” (later “Star Trek: Planet of the Titans”) that Paramount abandoned in order to launch a new series, “Star Trek: Phase II,” to anchor a new network (way back in the 1970s), only to pivot again and turn “In Thy Image,” which would’ve been the pilot episode of “Phase II,” into what became TMP.
